Kaoruko is a young woman who lives a quiet and unassuming life as the head of a herbs shop that was passed down to her by her grandmother. When Kaname informs her about the true past of her family, Kaoruko is initially taken aback but slowly accepts her newly discovered magic powers.

As a result of having been raised with the crede of a white witch, which stresses the importance of giving thanks and asking for permission, Kaoruko finds it difficult to adapt to the black witches' crede which is based on one's superiority to everything else and seizing control rather than requesting it.
