When writing an advertisement to hire a maid, she forgot to include an age requirement, which let to the thirteen-year-old Shirley applying for the job.
Due to her upper class upbringing, she has an optimistic and amicable disposition. Despite never scolding Shirley over small mistakes, she still possesses the dignity of an proprietress and does not tolerate impoliteness towards guests.
