In high school Nakaima Makoto was one of his teachers. She encouraged him to follow his dream of becoming a mangaka.

Due to an embarrassing incident in high school he began avoiding her and until she became his neighbor in Tokyo they had not talked since.

He can hear her "big sneezes" and such through the thin wall between their apartments.
