He works in a shoe shop passed down from his grandfather, and decides to hire Will after seeing how passionate he is about shoes. When the shop is in danger of being repossessed, the shoemaker almost marries the mayor's daughter to keep it afloat; however, Will snatches him away from the altar and confesses his feelings, proposing that they reopen the shop somewhere else. The two then live and work together for the shoemaker's entire lifespan.
