While meeting others, Ao typically keeps her face hidden underneath a long robe. However, her face is said to be nearly identical of that her distant descendent, Ruri Fuyajou.
Ao has a dry sense of humor, which isn't above openly insulting people if she feels they have committed a wrong. As protector of the seas, Ao is very attached to her role and has done whatever she can to extend her lifespan in order to continue protecting the world. However, this has also lead to a lack of trust in the future generation, which is compared to a mother who is afraid of letting her children go.
As headmistress of Hollow Ark, Ao is among the top five magicians in the world.
