When Miwa and Kengo find him, he asks about a "demon born of despair and darkness", revealing that his crew had succumbed to despair and awakened something malevolent from the depths. He is treated for an infection and loses his eyesight, and warns the present crew to find a way of escaping.
After Wein injects a lethal substance into his IV drip, Kyohiko reveals that the Shanghai Kyosei company had sent in mercenaries to execute the first crew after they massacred the cleanup crew, but that those too had been murdered by the presence lurking within Cofdeece.
