In chapter 21-22, it's revealed
that Black has not always been a demon, having originally been the seraphim for the heavens thousands of years ago. Black became a fallen angel after being exiled by God, whose traitorous ways he was seeking to expose, before Black eventually chose to reincarnate as a demon and stay in the Underworld after defeating him.
