
Muhammad Abed Baryal
Muhammad Abed Baryal (born October 1, 2000) is an Afghan filmmaker, editor, and actor from Wazir Akbar Khan, Kabul. He began his creative journey at the age of ten, acting in a film directed by his father, Bahramuddin Baryal. Since 2017, he has collaborated with his father in cinematography and editing, and has directed several short films, including The Book Seller’s Daughter (2021) and Behind the Door (2022), which was selected by the Lift-Off Sessions 2025. Muhammad has edited multiple artistic and documentary films, such as Natijeh (2018), Goncheha Par Par Mishavad (2019), and Farar az Watan (2022). He won the Did-Naw Festival Award in 2022 and has worked with notable Afghan filmmakers like Salim Shaheen. Despite not attending film school, Muhammad has developed his craft through hands-on experience, learning from his father and drawing inspiration from masters like Hitchcock, Kubrick, Fincher, Spielberg, and Abbas Kiarostami.
